The Wirecutter Guide to the Best Men’s Suits
1 new job, 3 months, 26 suits, 18 brands, 11 picks

Hi, there!
It’s been a while. I have some news about the future of Front of Book below, but I’m reaching out today to share some news. Yesterday I published my first piece at Wirecutter: A guide to “The Best Men’s Suits.”
Why did it take almost four months to publish my first story? Well, Wirecutter is serious about testing, and that’s how long it takes to put together an almost 10,000-word (!) guide to possibly the most important (or at least most expensive) item in a man’s wardrobe.
For this guide, Wirecutter style writer Alexander Aciman and I tested 26 suits from 18 brands, and whittled the selections down the best 11. We considered a range of purposes, body types, and budgets to cater to as many men as possible. We focused primarily on finding the best off-the-rack options, although we did test a few made-to-measure brands.
All summer, I ran around the city trying on suits. I wore suits to the office, to cocktail bars and dive bars, to house parties and dinners. Sometimes I wore suits for no reason at all. I wore the burgundy double breasted suit pictured above (from Indochino) to a Beyoncé concert in Las Vegas. I logged more hours in a suit than the rest of my life combined.
Our picks range in price from around $400 to $1,800 and include formal and casual suits, a range of colors and styles, and a couple double breasted options as well.
The picks include suits from:
Canadian online-only retailer Spier & Mackay
Norway’s Cavour
Atlanta’s own Sid Mashburn
and more!
This guide was a lot of fun — and a lot of work! — to put together. I’m really happy with the result, but please let me know if you think we missed something.
Check out the guide for more about our picks and why we chose them.
In Other News…
You might have noticed a new look here at FOB (including that cute little button divider above). In recent months I’ve been working with a talented young designer and artist named Jack Rader to come up with a new logo and design template for the newsletter. (More on the logo/design in an upcoming post.)
Why do you need a new logo when you haven’t written anything in months?
Thanks for asking! For one, I wanted to give this newsletter a logo that I didn’t design myself on Canva. And two, I miss writing here, and I want to bring the newsletter back to life.
So soon I’m going to return to weekly posting. I’ll still be writing about style, but I’m also going to expand my coverage to all things front-of-book — things I find interesting in the worlds of culture, design, travel, food, and other topics.
The new chapter of Front of Book will launch in a few weeks. Until then, take a look at the suit guide and let me know what you think I got right and wrong, what I missed, and what suit brands you love most.
Thanks for reading, and see you again soon.

This was an incredibly well written & thoroughly researched guide. I'm a menswear enthusiast and love all of your recommendations. Seriously great work!
This is a great list for a suit for all price points. Have you gotten views on Anglo Italian? Would suggest checking out
