Do you ever get out of bed in the morning and have no clue what to wear that day? Happens to me all the time. That’s why I have an entire folder on my phone of outfit inspiration, and dozens of saved images on Instagram as well.
Just this morning I was feeling a little groggy and uninspired, so I picked up my phone, opened the app, and saw a pic of Aaron Levine channeling a relaxed spring morning in a light blue shirt, brown cords, a bucket hat and canvas sneakers, drinking a cup of coffee. And boom, there it was—my outfit inspiration for the day (minus the bucket hat).
When I find my inspiration, I try not to re-create the outfit exactly—that feels too much like playing dress up. Instead, I try to create the feel of it. What is it about the outfit that I like, and why today?
Levine’s outfit reminded me of a pair of camel corduroy pants I have from Mark the Tailor that I haven’t worn in a while, and a soft denim shirt from Banana Republic. Together, with a pair of canvas Catch Ball sneakers and a sweet vintage Detroit Tigers hat I found on eBay recently, it was a perfect, relaxed Friday fit. I was set.
So, as we head into the weekend, I wanted to leave you with some outfit inspiration straight from my Instagram Saved tab I’ve collected the last few weeks.
Have a great one, and I’ll be back soon (I promise) with my Tokyo menswear guide.
Mitch
